Believe in Love? Why The Church Should Join The Sound Of The Halftime Show

It happens every time.

A crowd sings together. They hold each other and smile. It ‘s loud and real. And I get serious goosebumps.

Every.

Time.

Did you feel them at the halftime show?

What do think that is?

Maybe, it’s an invitation from heaven, to join our voices to something bigger than ourselves, a sound that is stronger than hate, a prophetic reminder of what God intends to do.

All the nations you have made will come and worship before you, Lord; they will bring glory to your name. Psalm 86:9

The almost 13-minute show included rainbow violins, an army of band geeks and a stage reminiscent of Coldplay’s A Head Full of Dreams album art.

Bruno Mars and friends rolled up with ’90s rap/R&B vibes to the now-immortal “Uptown Funk”; Beyonce turned up on the actual field itself with a couple dozen black-clad dancers to perform her brand new, one-day-old song “Formation.”

Before things finished up, we got a beautiful montage of tons of Super Bowl halftime shows of years past, including clips of Michael Jackson, The Rolling Stones and Whitney Houston.

And the message across the huge filed above read: “Believe in Love.”

It was not the greatest halftime show, but the last minute won me over.

When Chris Martin (lead singer of Coldplay) was asked what direction their performance would take, he answered, “We decided to make it about togetherness and acceptance, and the things we believe in.”

I agree, and that is good news worth sharing.

Do you believe in love?

Peace.

“With Jesus there is no us and them – there is just us.” Father Greg Boyle in his incredible story: Tattoos on the Heart

*If you felt the goosebumps, share this invitation to “believe in love” with others.
